Bapus Group of Companies : Dry Dock Fitter

The Dry Dock Fitter performs fabrication, fitting, alignment, installation, and repair work on ship structures, piping systems, machinery foundations, and related equipment. The role requires interpreting technical drawings, using hand and power tools, and ensuring all work complies with safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work instructions.
• Mark, cut, shape, and fit metal components according to specifications.
• Install, repair, and replace ship structural parts such as plates, frames, brackets, and supports.
• Dismantle and reassemble machinery, pumps, valves, and associated equipment.
• Carry out alignment and fitting of shafts, bearings, and mechanical components.
• Assist in dry dock maintenance, vessel repairs, and new shipbuilding projects.
• Use measuring instruments to verify dimensions and tolerances.
• Operate hand tools, power tools, lifting equipment, and workshop machinery safely.
• Coordinate with welders, riggers, machinists, and supervisors during repair activities.
• Follow safety regulations, permit-to-work systems, and environmental procedures.
• Report defects, progress, and completed work to supervisors.

Qualifications

• ITI / Diploma in Fitter, Mechanical Engineering, or a related trade.
• Experience in shipyard, marine repair, offshore, or heavy industrial maintenance is preferred.
• Knowledge of marine machinery and ship structures is an advantage.

Working Conditions

• Work is performed in dry docks, shipyards, workshops, and onboard vessels.
• Requires lifting, climbing, working in confined spaces, and working at heights.
• May involve shift work, overtime, and outdoor exposure to varying weather conditions.
